Dr. (Ms) B. Meenakumari

 Chairperson, National Biodiversity Authority

Dr. B. Meenakumari, Chairperson, National Biodiversity Authority, India, has served in ICAR as DDG (Fy) and Director CIFT. She has done pioneering work in introducing and standardising new fishing gear materials and accessories for making fishing easier, more productive and profitable. She has also been involved in development of modern lobster traps with durable material, squaremesh cod ends for the conservation of fishery resources and identifying potential fishing zones with the help of satellite imagery.




 

Shri M.Chandra Dathan

 Scientific Advisor to Chief Minister of Kerala

Shri M. C. Dathan is an Indian space scientist and former director of the Vikram Sarabhai Space Centre (VSSC). The Government of India honoured him, in 2014, by awarding him the Padma Shri, the fourth highest civilian award, for his contributions to the fields of science and technology. Shri MC Dathan is presently the scientific advisor to chief minister of Kerala.

Dr.Balakrishna Pisupati

 Vice Chancellor, FRLHT, Bangalore

Dr.Pisupati has close to three decades of local, national, regional and global experience focusing on conservation and development and has been actively involved in building programmes and institutions since 1991. He has worked for a range of institutions such as Government (Chairman, National Biodiversity Authority, Government of India), national non-governmental organization (Head, Biodiversity and Biotechnology Programme, M S Swaminathan Research Foundation, India), international non-governmental organizations (Head, Asia Regional Programme, IUCN-The World Conservation Union), United Nations (Coordinator, Biodiplomacy Programme at UN University and Chief of Biodiversity, Multilateral Environmental Agreements at United Nations Environment Programme), and international academic think-tank (Senior Policy Specialist, Fridtjof Nansen Institute, Norway). He has served as an advisor to several governments in the Asia, Pacific, Africa, Latin America and Europe on issues of conservation and development and supported establishment of biodiversity programmes in countries such as Philippines, Viet Nam, Sri Lanka and Nepal. He has more than 90 research publications and articles and 41 books on various issues ranging from conservation to science-policy interface, trade, IPRs, sustainable development.




 

Dr.Vanaja Ramprasad

 Director, Green Foundation, Bangalore

Dr.VanajaRamaprasad is the Founding Trustee of GREEN Foundation, and was invited to receive the Equator Initiative award in 2004. One of GREEN Foundation’s driving forces is to empower farmers to achieve economic securit.Dr.Vanaja has travelled all over the world sharing her knowledge and expertise in her field. She has served on the World Board of the International Federation of Organic Agriculture Movements (IFOAM). She was also one of the lead authors in the International Assessment of Agricultural Knowledge, Science and Technology for Development (IAASTD). She is committed to her work in creating a sustainable food system that has impacted many livelihoods, especially that of the farmers.




 

Ms.Priya Pillai

 Campaigner, Greenpeace India

Priya Pillai is a campaigner with Greenpeace India. Greenpeace India campaigns to protect India’s forests, for clean air and water, to promote solar power, to prevent the dangerous impacts of climate change and nuclear power, for safe food and ecological farming and to protect freedom of speech. Pillai and Greenpeace India have been supporting tribal villages in the Singrauli district of Madhya Pradesh opposed to the Mahan coal mine, which threatens a large forest area that many thousands depend on for their livelihoods.




 

Mr.S.M Vijayanand IAS

 Chief Secretary, Govt. of Kerala

A 1981-batch IAS officer, Mr.Vijayanandhad played a key role in the devolution of funds, powers and personnel to the local government institutions, besides serving as Member-Secretary of the Sen Committee on Democratic Decentralisation and member of the State Finance Commission headed by economist PrabhatPatnaik. He had also served as the State labour commissioner and Director, Institute of Management.




 

Dr.V.S Vijayan

 Former Chairman, Kerala State Biodiversity Board

An Indian environmentalist, wildlife biologist, ornithologist, an admirer of naturopathy and the founding Director of the Salim Ali Centre for Ornithology and Natural History was the Chairman of Kerala State Biodiversity Board. He is currently the chairman of the Salim Ali Foundation. As the founder Director of the Salim Ali Centre for Ornithology and Natural History, the premier ornithology institute in the country, he led several studies for the conservation of threatened bird of India. He contributed to the Western Ghats Ecology Expert Panel (WGEEP), Gadgil Committee for an inclusive biodiversity conservation. He also developed an organic farming policy for Kerala state during his tenure as the Chairman of the Kerala State Biodiversity Board. His report on the Impact of hydroelectric dam on wildlife in Silent Valley was the first scientific basis for the start of the Save Silent Valley movement. His reports on the environmental impacts of the proposed Pathrakadavu hydroelectric project, Pooyamkutty hydroelectric project, Athirapillyhydroelectic project, Aranmula International Airport, genetically modified crops attracted much attention. He was awarded Padmanabhan Memorial award during 2010.




 

Prof. T.C. James

 Consultant, Visiting Fellow, Research and Information System for Developing Countries (RIS),New Delhi

Prof. James is currently Visiting Fellow, Research & Information System for Developing Countries and also Visiting Faculty, Indian Academy of International Law. He is Member of Speaker’s Research Initiative and is former Director, Intellectual Property Rights (IPRs) Division (2001-2009), Department of Industrial Policy & Promotion, Ministry of Commerce & Industry, India. He has handled law and policy relating to various IPRs such as copyrights, geographical indications, designs, trademarks and patents. He had been leader/member of Indian delegations on intellectual property rights (IPRs) to World Intellectual Property Organization (WIPO), WTO and UNO during 1996-2009. He had also been key negotiator on IPR matters in bilateral trade negotiations with many countries including Japan, Singapore, Malaysia, US and EU (2002-09). James was Research Advisor of the project ‘Geographical Indications and Localisation’ of the University of Warwick, National IPR Expert, UNIDO-ICAMT and also IPR Consultant, FICCI. He has published many papers on intellectual property rights, education, history and religion, besides poems, in journals and periodicals.




 

Dr.R.V Varma

 Former Chairman, Kerala State Biodiversity Board

Dr. R.V Varma is the Former Chairman of Kerala State Biodiversity Board. He is a member of the expert committee on ABS. Dr.Varma is a Fellow of the Royal Entomological Society (FRES), London and a life member of the Indian Society for Biocontrol Advancement. He is highly acclaimed for his work on termites in forest ecosystems. Dr.Varma has over 30 years research experience and has been working on various aspects of forest insects during his tenure at KFRI. H has over 90 publications in National and International Scientific journals.




 

Dr.K. K. Joshi

 Head & Principal Scientist, Marine Biodiversity Division, CMFRI, Kochi

Dr. K.K Joshi has been working in CMFRI since 1992 on fishery biology, stock assessment of marine fishes, taxonomy of marine fishes, biodiversity inventorisation and biodiversity valuation. He is interested in marine and coastal biodiversity conservation and management and has worked on understanding the fishery biology and population dynamics of threadfin breams, taxonomy of carangids, siverbellies, tunas, biology of elasmobranchs, taxonomy of fishes of Gulf of Mannar Ecosystem, cataloguing and inventorisation of marine organisms in the marine repository.




 

Dr. Priya Davidar

 Department of Ecology and Environmental Sciences, School of Life Sciences, Pondicherry University, Puducherry

Dr. Priya Davidar is an Indian scientific researcher and scholar working as a professor at thePondicherry University and conducts ecological research in different regions of India. She was elected Fellow of the American Association for the Advancement of Science in 2012. She is actively involved with theconservation of forests and wildlife. She has published about 100 papers in scientific journals. In 2009, she was the President of Association for Tropical Biology and Conservation.
