KSBB was able to deliver its mandate effectively through a structure that comprises of five ex-officio members, five members nominated by the Government, Chairman and Member Secretary. The State Biodiversity rules were formulated on 2008 and during the brief span of nine years since establishment KSBB has served the cause of Biodiversity conservation by implementing various projects such as documenting local biodiversity in People’s Biodiversity Register, Conservation of Agro biodiversity, Conservation of farm animal diversity, Conservation of Wetlands, Water birds and Heronry, Conservation of flagship/endemic species, People’s Artificial reef through community participation, Ecorestoration programmes and Awareness programs. Taking into consideration the importance of nature and environmental education and the need for creating awareness among the future generations, children’s biodiversity congress is conducted yearly. KSBB has the distinction of the being the only state board which has been successful in constituting a functional Biodiversity Management Committee in all Panchayats, Corporations and Municipalities of the state. The first step towards conservation and sustainable utilization of biodiversity is its documentation and People Biodiversity Register (PBR) is one of the most comprehensive register of natural resources at Panchayt level, which has been prepared in 600 panchayats of Kerala.

KSBB is in the process of establishing a Biodiversity Research centre which will function as a centre for applied research through collection, collation, management, analysis and dissemination of data on Kerala’s biological diversity. KSBB has enabled discussions on environmental issues with policy makers, implementing agencies, BMC, LSG, NGO’s etc, by creating forums for policy dialogues with different stakeholders, by providing strategic environmental policy perspectives aimed towards improved natural resource governance.
